January, Saturday 26 at 12pm
National demonstration outside the Israeli Embassy in South Kensington

The Coalition is calling a mass protest in London to highlight Sharon's war against the Palestinians. We would urge as many supporters as possible to come. Keep posted to Stop the War Coalition's website.

February, Saturday 9
The Coalition will be organising a teach-in in London to help get to grips with some of the underlying issues behind the "war on terrorism". Details, with confirmed speakers, will be announced shortly on their website.

The Coalition is also supporting a conference on the situation in South Asia, to be held in April (check date), with speakers from all communities in the sub-continent. For more details please contact Mike Marqusee (mikemarqusee@aol.com) and Suresh Grover (020 8843 2333/07903 931 365/sg@ncrm.org.uk).

Rapid Response
In the event of any attack being launched against Iraq - or any other country - in the next few weeks, the Coalition will be calling upon London supporters to picket Downing Street at 6.00pm on the day in question to give an immediate expression of our opposition. We would urge local groups and supporters in other parts of the country to do likewise at suitable locations in their own area and to email

Activities

John Wild is looking for participants to help organise interventions in shopping centres to generate and promote discussion about the 'War on Terrorism'. It is not clear what Bush & Blair's next step will be. It may be an extension of the war to Iraq, Somalia, Sudan, Yemen, or further attacks on our civil liberties. Either way we should be ready to respond and challenge these actions.
The interventions will consist of five or six 'actors' inciting a discussion. Prior to the first 'intervention' a workshop on 'Invisible Theatre' will be organised.
If you would like to take part in this type of action, or have the skills (or venue) to help run the workshop please contact him for more details.

Stop the War Coalition are asking groups to lobby their MPs over the war and the restriction on civil liberties. Check their website for details on doing this.

'Theatre in public spaces' project by antiwarheadz. They're aiming to set up projects which will involve varying levels of time commitment - so that even playwrights with very little time can get involved.
Could you come up with a 30 sec/2 min/10 min scenario to be visibly or invisibly performed in a public place (tube/cafes/street/theatre foyer, etc) to provoke/challenge/move the public in response to the war in Afghanistan?
Please email anything which you think will promote democracy/debate, engage people's minds, provoke feeling, thought, protest, e.g. existing plays/poems which address war, or speak to you at this time - could you recommend a scene/passage - we hope to build a 'montage' of passages from existing plays which resonate with the anti-war movement now ... quotes, poems, suggestions for plays, etc would all be useful & appreciated ... anything which moves/inspires/speaks to you.
Email Rebecca Pritchard: antiwarheadz@yahoogroups.com.

If you would like to contribute a line, a verse, a thought, a whole song lyric ... whatever, please email AATW (artistsagainstthewar@hotmail.com). Even if you need time to think further, don't hesitate to contact us.
